In 1999, Luoping County included ginger in the follow-up cultivation industry for the first time. Looking at boxes of fresh ginger, Chen Mulin, a big planter, said that his family planted 50 mu of small turmeric this year and is currently harvesting it, hoping to sell it at a good price.
At present, there are more than 30,000 farmers who are as busy harvesting fresh ginger as Chen Mulin in Luoping County. It is understood that the planting history of Luoping Dioscorea zingiberensis can be traced back to 30 years of Qing Emperor Kangxi, and it has a history of more than 300 years. After years of training in planting techniques, growers have generally mastered the planting techniques of ginger, and the average yield has increased from 1 ton in 1998 to 2 tons, and some areas have achieved medium and high yield of 3 to 4 tons. At present, Luoping has built more than 150,000 mu of pollution-free production base of Dioscorea zingiberensis, and the main producing areas have been expanded from 7 to 11. Luoping county has become the largest ginger distribution center in Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou provinces and a famous ginger producing area in China.

"In 2020, Luoping Dioscorea zingiberensis broke through the direct selling price per kilogram in 8 yuan, achieving a total output value of 1.8 billion yuan. There are more than 30,000 ginger farmers in the county, and the average household income has increased by more than 20,000 yuan. "
Duan Rui, deputy director of the Agriculture Bureau of Luoping County, said that in 2021, the planting scale of Dioscorea zingiberensis in the county exceeded 200,000 mu for the first time, reaching 235,000 mu. It is estimated that the total output will reach 470,000 tons, and the total output will reach a record high.

Luoping County "Jiang Lai Wu You" Agricultural and Sideline Products Development Co., Ltd. focused on the development and promotion of health ginger products of Dioscorea zingiberensis, and launched a series of health ginger products, which deeply explored and developed the "food and medicine" value and health care function of Dioscorea zingiberensis. As a large-scale local ginger deep processing enterprise, its products have been recognized by the market and consumers.
In fact, Luoping County has made many beneficial explorations in improving product quality, building ecological brands and extending industrial chain. In terms of brand building, in 2017, products such as "Yunjiang" and "Plateau Shangpin" were awarded the "Protection Certificate of Ecological Origin Products". In 2018, Luoping County was recognized as the first batch of advantageous agricultural products in Yunnan Province, and won the "Top 10 Famous Products" award for the first green food in Yunnan Province. In 2019, Luoping Dioscorea zingiberensis industry was successfully selected as a characteristic county of "one county and one industry" in Yunnan Province.
After years of development, there are 18 ginger processing enterprises in Luoping County, including 1 national leading enterprise, 1 provincial leading enterprise and 4 municipal leading enterprises. There are more than 500 traditional dried ginger processing workshops and more than 1,000 marketing agents and purchasers. The industrial chain of buying ginger, transporting ginger, washing ginger, cutting ginger, baking ginger, sorting and packaging has basically taken shape. Diversified products such as soaked ginger, ginger wine, ginger sugar and ginger tea have entered the market, forming a rich and diverse product system, and the added value of products has been continuously improved.
Take the platform to unblock the market road.
"The purpose of inviting everyone here today is to build a platform, lead a red line, solve the problem of production and sales, and really open up the channel between production and sales." Recently, Shen Hongbo, deputy secretary of Luoping County Party Committee, said that Luoping’s agricultural products were not produced or of poor quality, but were mainly sold smoothly, branded and achieved high quality and good price, rather than dumped at low prices.
This year is a bumper harvest year for Dioscorea zingiberensis in Luoping. At present, many Dioscorea zingiberensis growers have begun to look for powerful buyers and strive for a good price. Therefore, the government has acted as a "matchmaker" for the masses and enterprises and set up a production and marketing platform. At the meeting, the heads of sales enterprises and e-commerce platforms put forward their own opinions and suggestions, ranging from the transformation and upgrading of products to the packaging, preservation and logistics of products. The purpose is to solve the dilemma of production being difficult to sell and selling at a low price.
How to stabilize the price of turmeric has also become an urgent problem to be solved. Luoping county is relying on the largest turmeric trading and processing base in southwest China-Yunnan Luoping international turmeric trading market, so that the scattered sales of turmeric in the past can be aggregated and sold in batches. Not far from the trading market, the construction project of Dioscorea zingiberensis cold chain logistics center is about to be completed, which also provides supporting conditions for the price stability of Dioscorea zingiberensis in Luoping and the sustainable development of the industry.
In addition to building a platform and stabilizing prices, Luoping County has also introduced an industrial reward and compensation policy to reward local leading agricultural enterprises and large planters engaged in deep processing of turmeric, encouraging enterprises to buy more local turmeric, solving the sales problems of ginger farmers and driving them to increase their income; Through government-led exhibitions and commodity promotion conferences in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, we will build a publicity camp platform for enterprises, support enterprises to go out to participate in exhibitions and expand market share.
