Professor Huang Hui, director of hypertension department of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, said that in 2010, a total of 190,000 Han children aged between 7 and 17 were investigated in the National Student Physical Fitness Research Project. The survey results show that the prevalence of hypertension among children in China has reached 14.5% in 2010. Among them, 16.9% are men and 12.9% are women. According to the health and nutrition survey in China, the prevalence rate of hypertension among children aged 6 to 17 in seven provinces and cities in China increased from 7.1% in 1991 to 13.8% in 2009, showing an obvious upward trend.
