When will the infighting among Chery, Xingtu and Jietu end?
As we all know, Chery has two major brands, Xingtu and Jietu, among which Xingtu is a high-end brand that Chery strives to build, aiming at enhancing the overall brand image of Chery Group. Not long ago, Chery Holding Group listed Starway Eta Ursae Majoris, released Chery Tiggo 9 and Jetway Traveler. Unexpectedly, the prices of these three cars have not been opened, and there is a strong competitive relationship between them. In people’s eyes, other brands are killing each other, while Chery is killing itself.
Since Starway is a high-end brand of Chery, it has to keep a distance from Chery, such as Toyota and Lexus, Volkswagen and Audi. At present, Starway’s products include Zhuifeng, Lingyun, Eta Ursae Majoris, Lanyue, etc., with prices ranging from 100,000 to 250,000 yuan. Theoretically speaking, the target of Xingtu brand should be Lingke and Wei brand, but the price of others has exceeded 300 thousand, and Xingtu is still hovering in the price range of more than 100 thousand yuan. In the long run, it will inevitably go against Chery’s advanced high-end.
However, Jietu’s positioning is more clear. It seems to be lower than Chery’s brand and holds high the banner of cost performance. The core technology of Jetway comes from Chery. Whether it is the engine, gearbox or chassis, Jetway is almost the same as Chery. However, all the models that have tested Chery and Jietu know that Chery’s driving quality is obviously better, mainly reflected in the matching of engine and gearbox and the adjustment of chassis. This may be because Chery uses parts with higher prices and better quality. In short, if you can buy Chery, don’t buy Jetway.
Is Starway short of technology? Obviously not. I believe everyone knows that Chery is a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover, and many technologies and engineers of Starway are from Chery Jaguar Land Rover. Secondly, Chery gives priority to supplying the best things to Xingtu. For example, the popular 2.0T engine has a maximum power of 261 horsepower, a peak torque of 400 Nm, a thermal efficiency of 38.2%, and the maximum torque speed can be extended from 1,750 rpm to 4,000 rpm. Although Chery and Jetway also have 2.0T engines, they are essentially different. They only need to fill 92 # gasoline, and their power is slightly lower, just like the EA888 2.0T engines of Volkswagen and Audi.
However, Starway still can’t throw away the banner of high cost performance, but obviously it has the strength but has to take the affordable route. At present, Chery’s self-developed transverse 8AT gearbox, code-named (FA840), has been able to be assembled on the car, but the newly listed Eta Ursae Majoris just doesn’t need it, and still uses the Magna seven-speed wet dual clutch of Chery. In people’s eyes, even if Aisin 8AT is adopted, people can feel thoroughly remoulded, just like Lectra. In addition, high-end luxury cars are characterized by front double wishbone suspension and longitudinal rear drive, which are not available, so it is difficult to reflect the attributes of high-end cars.
It can be seen that the Star Road is only very solid in materials, and everything that is visible to the naked eye is perfect. However, it is a veritable family car in its bones, just better than the same class! In short, the texture of Xingtu is stronger than that of Chery, and the texture of Chery is stronger than that of Jietu. Therefore, if Starway wants to move towards the high-end and compete with the existing luxury brands, it must come up with some real skills, such as the rear-drive platform, or the front suspension with double wishbone structure, and a better gearbox, etc. Only by essentially distinguishing from Chery models can the price be further opened.
